City fall to Knockbreda comeback

Armagh City 1
Knockbreda 2

The home side started the more brightly and but for a finger tip save from Paul Cairnduff they might have taken an early lead from an excellent Shea Campbell strike. A Johnny McSorley shot was off target and a Jasir Camara effort was comfortably saved by Cairnduff.

As the half wore on the visitors started to come more into the game. It was the home side however that took the lead five minutes from the interval following good build up play an Eamon Kelly cross from the left was met inside the box by Conor Mullen who found the net.

The lead was short lived however as within a minute Knockbreda were on level terms after two City players collided in the box allowing Bobby Burns a simple chance to score.

Before the break Camara had another shot saved by the Knockbreda keeper.

City having the majority of the play at the start of the second half with a Sean Mallon free going over the bar a very good shot from Camara being well saved and yet another Camara effort going just over the crossbar.

Despite the home side’s pressure it was the visitors that took the lead 12 minutes in when the ball broke to Burns from a corner and his effort found the back of the City net although the it looked as if the last touch came off a City player.

It took a trio of excellent saves from John Connolly at the midway point of the half to keep the home side in the match. The third in particular coming when Michael Halliday put the ball through to Samuel Devine one on one with the keeper but as has often been the case Connolly came out on top making a superb stop.

Gradually however the home side started to put on some pressure in their attempt to find an equalised with the hard working Camara having a number of efforts saved. Knockbreda keeper Cairnduff had to come to his side’s rescue when he made an superb near post save from an excellent Mullen effort minutes from time.
