First Holm loss of 2017 for City

Armagh City 0
H&W Welders 3

City’s long list of unavailable players was added to when young right back Conor Kerr suffered a hairline fracture of a kneecap in the recent match at Annagh.

They therefore went into Saturday’s match with the Welders without Kerr and other injured players Luke Grimley and Ultan Lennon as well as the suspended Dale Montgomery.

Despite the absentees the home side dominated possession in the first half.

They caused no real threat to the Welder’s goal the nearest they came was when Eamon Kelly failed to make proper contact with a Johnny McSorley cross and minutes later when Conor Mullen headed a Paul Carvill cross narrowly wide.

Points dropped in 8-goal thriller at Annagh

Annagh United 4
Armagh City 4
9 Shea Campbell

A wild game at Tandragee Road on Saturday saw Armagh City throw away an opportunity to gain ground on their rivals in the relegation battle, as they saw a late lead slip away against the Championship’s bottom side, Annagh United.

Marty Rice was still without the injured Ultan Lennon, so Stephen Hutchinson partnered Eoin Toal once again at the heart of the defence, with the latter just back from Torquay having led Northern Ireland U18 schoolboys to a 4-1 victory over their English counterparts on Friday. In two changes to the side which unluckily lost to Knockbreda the previous week, Johnny McSorley came into the midfield for Matthew Hynds, while Sean Mallon started in place of Thai Blevins.

City started brightly with some neat passing and an urgency to attack from the outset. However, despite bossing the play in the opening minutes, Armagh found themselves behind with less than 10 minutes on the clock. A long punt forward from Annagh keeper Ciaran Fox was allowed to bounce by Hutchinson and the ball was immediately pounced upon by striker Aaron Duke who made no mistake with a lethal finish from 20 yards.

Armagh City 1
Larne 1

A last minute equalizer from the penalty spot broke Armagh City hearts at Holm Park on Saturday, as Marty Rice’s side saw two points slip from their grasp after Paul Carvill’s late free-kick looked to have propelled the Eagles to a vital three points against fellow NIFL Championship strugglers Larne.

City made two changes to the side that thumped Lurgan Celtic a week ago, with youngster Eoin Toal returning to the heart of the defence in place of Stephen Hutchinson, while Dale Montgomery returned from suspension to take Matthew Hynds’ spot on the right wing.

The home side went on the attack from the opening whistle and almost had the ball in the net inside five minutes. A scramble in the Larne box saw Conor Mullen pick up the ball and as he went down under a challenge from keeper Connor Malcolmson the ball broke to Eamon Kelly who fired a shot off the foot of the post from a tight angle.

Lethal Mullen hat-trick sees off Celtic

Armagh City 3
Lurgan Celtic 0

Armagh City got back to winning ways in the NIFL Championship on Saturday with a strong team performance against rivals Lurgan Celtic highlighted by a lethal hat-trick from striker Conor Mullen.

Without the suspended Dale Montgomery, manager Marty Rice gave 17-year-old Conor Kerr his home debut at right-back while Stephen Hutchinson deputised in the middle of the defence for Eoin Toal who was only fit enough for the bench. Up front, Mullen was joined by Jasir Camara who made his first start for City.
