City beat Welders to secure Championship 1 status

H&W Welders 0 Armagh City 2

City secured their Championship 1 status as they moved to seventh position in the league with an excellent away win. City played well throughout the first half, with Donnelly and Hoey both going close with long range efforts. The Welders had some decent attacks and also went close on a few occassions, but City came closest to breaking the deadlock when Moore had an effort cleared off the line.

Lucky to be on even terms at the break, Welders started the second half in determined fashion and Rainey forced an excellent block from City keeper Morgan. They went close and skimmed the bar, but it was City who broke the deadlock through Andrew Hoey, when he fired over the keeper from a narrow angle after being put through following good work by Murray and Donnelly down the left flank.

As the game drifted towards the close, the teams were matched in a midfield tussle, but then Donnelly sealed the points for City when he got on the end of a neat through ball from Hoey. This was a great away win for City, with an impressive defensive display and some excellent quick attacking play.
