Six In a Row For City

Six in Row for City

Killymoon 1 Armagh City 1 (City win 5 : 4 in penalties)

Armagh City claimed their 5th back to back League Win last Sat (15th) when Gavin Cusack found the net and gave City the lead in the first half of the game. This 1 nil lead remained throughout the rest of the match for City to come away with another 3 points keeping them on top of the league with goal difference.

Saturday’s match (22nd) was in the Bob Radcliff Cup against Killymoon. Keeping the momentum going City fought hard against what seemed to be a new Killymoon side to come away with a hard earned win.

Armagh started strong and just after 3 minutes in, managed to get a well-placed ball into the box to find the feet of Ryan McGerrigan. McGerrigan took a shot only to be denied by the Killymoon defence. Minutes later Liam Cullen placed another perfectly struck ball into the box to be controlled by Shea McGerrigan only to be denied a goal again by the strong Killymoon defence.

Killymoon got themselves into the game by testing City’s defence only to be awarded by a corner, City’s keeper Sean Morgan was on alert and picked the ball out of the air.

30 minutes in with City on the attack again saw Shea McGerrigan brought down twice by Killymoon within minutes, Killymoon defenders picking up a yellow card for each of their offences.

Both sides continued to battle for the rest of the first half and into the second with both sides missing chances until 16 minutes in, when a cross into the box from Ryan McShane on the right found Stephen Murray, Murray controlled, turned and found the back of the net giving City the lead they had been fighting for all through the first half.

Due to what can be only explained as a complete lack of judgement by the Referee, a free was given against Liam Cullen who had the ball. The free seemed to be for the slightest of pushes he had to make to keep of a forceful Killymoon attacker.Killymoon set up for the free just outside the 18 yard box, the ball was well struck and Cullen, just outside the six yard area, made a slight contact with the ball with his head only to find the top corner of his own net to the dismay of all City supporters. Score now 1 each.

During extra time City had two good chances at ending the game only to shot wide or hit the woodwork. Killymoon could also have ended during these extra minutes of the game also shooting wide.

City and Killymoon kicked each penalty kick with precision to find the net with one exception, Killymoon’s second shot was denied by the tremendous save by Sean Morgan to give City a 5 : 4 win, a win they deservedly fought for throughout the game.
