Armagh turn the Corner!

Armagh City 4-0 Chimney Corner

Armagh  City recorded successive Championship Two victories on Saturday as they swept aside the challenge of Chimney Corner at Holm Park. City ran out 4-0 winners and could have quite easily have doubled that tally had they taken all the chances which came their way.

Two goals from man-of-the-match, midfielder Andy Moore, along with scores from John Whitten and Adam Nesbitt, sealed the points for Armagh who dominated throughout the encounter.

City opened their account in the eighth minute when a Nesbitt shot was initially charged down by Corner ‘keeper Michael Dempsey. The ball was played back into the path of the onrushing Moore and he blasted a low shot into the back of the visitor’s net.

Moments later Gavin Cusack dragged a shot just wide of the mark and then he headed over from close range as the home side increased the pressure. Armagh, however, did deservedly increase their lead on 37 minutes when, after yet another effort from Cusack was saved, Dempsey half-cleared the ball and Whitten pounced to send the ball back with interest from 25-yards out.

City continued to press but last-ditch errors meant they were unable to increase their lead before the interval. After the break the home side were even more dominant and the luckless Cusack again drove the ball over the Chimney crossbar when in the clear.
Immediately Dale Montgomery had another chance for Armagh but he also flicked the ball over the top following an inch-perfect cross from the right by Adam Nesbitt.

But City did manage to break the visitor’s resistance after 64 minutes when Moore fired through a superb pass to Adam Nesbitt who raced forward and crashed the ball past the hapless Demsey.

Further efforts from Adam Nesbitt and his brother Richard also went abegging as Armagh threatened to run riot. A fourth goal did finally arrive in injury-time when Moore finished off a superb three-man move involving Cillian Sheridan and Adam Nesbitt.

This score rounded off a sound display from Armagh who dominated the game from start to finish, with Corner barely having a shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes.
