Ladies strike gold

Davison’s Frudles NIWFA Div1

Armagh City Ladies defeated Portaferry 9-0 away from home on Tuesday 5 July with a fine performance. Armagh scored early on with Katie Boylan finding the net as the visitors dominated the play. Megan Cinnamond intercepted a ball in the heart of the defence and with a powerful run up the left wing, bypassing player after player, she squeezed the ball up the channel to the ever busy Megan Bothwell who rounded one defender and squared the ball across the six yard area for Troughton to tap in. Bothwell added two goals before half-time to make it 4-0.

City started strongly in the second half, with Bothwell’s hard work rewarded with her hat-trick goal. Troughton delivered a corner which a Portaferry defender inadvertently put past the ‘keeper to make it 6-0. From another corner Bothwell found Cinnamond to head home her first goal of the season. Cinnamond swapped roles with Bothwell and was pushed up front in the final minutes where from a long clearance by ‘keeper Wendy Gray, Carline Andrews headed on to Cinnamond to slots into the bottom right hand corner of the Ports’ net. The last action of the night saw City awarded a free kick outside the penalty area, from which Claire Taylor scored superby into the top right hand corner of the net.
